|| Convention || Post TwitchCon 2019

10/7/19

Normally I am slow at these things but since I stopped drinking coffee I've been more energetic and motivated to do more things instead of sleep.

This past weekend I attended TwitchCon and to be completely honest I am surprised at this year's performance ( not the party, I didn't go)

But It was amazingly better than last year, each day will be broken down into separate points to keep the post from being ridiculously long and wordy and at the end will be my thoughts on TwitchCon 2019:

Thursday:
Before the convention even began we wanted to be smart and get our badges early and spend some time in San Diego before the convention began.

  • The beau and I arrived early ( 9am early before we could even check into the Airbnb)
  • Got breakfast at a place called the Lazy Hippo ( the servers were overwhelmed and didn't expect a lot of business so early)

Streamer - Mojojo_97 & Me
  • Got our badges ( we were in line for 20-45 minutes despite how the line looked + with our stuff)
    • We also learned the convention center chosen was the same convention center where SD Comic-Con is held.
  • We still couldn't check into the Airbnb the beau and I waited at Target for three hours
  • Three hours later - made it to our Airbnb & waited for the third person to show up
  • Mojo (her nickname) arrives we head back to the convention center to pick up her badge and get food.
  • Food was eh/mediocre
  • Headed back to the Airbnb to settle down for the night

Friday
The first official day of TwitchCon, here's the breakdown of Friday-

  • Twitch merch store aka Loot Cave ( we were in line for at least an hour?)
  • Peeked at Artist Alley ( they had some good pieces)
  • Peeked at the Expo Center ( we met up with the beau's other friend)
  • Saw Pokimane (and made fun of her security)
  • Purchased things from META Threads ( I have a planned post coming up about them)
  • Saw HyperX booth - Took pictures and participated in the giveaway ( we didn't win anything)

  • Ate sushi from a conveyor belt sushi restaurant
  • Purchased snacks from H-Mart ( and makeup)
  • Headed back home to hang with frands.

Saturday:
This was the day that everything really began to happen here's Saturday's breakdown-
  • We all met up with the beau's friend again
  • Explored the Expo Hall & Artist Alley
    • Went back to META
    • Tested out some new gaming chairs
    • Played a new game I'm excited to stream
  • I personally met up with some of my favorite streamers ( I think I caught a cold from one of them)
  • Did some networking ( the beau and I both did)
  • Met up with other streamers! ( some of them I've never talked to but in a way became friends with them, and lowkey fangirled)
  • Had some really bland tacos ( they were so bad but I was so hungry...so I ate them)
  • Headed back to the Airbnb to start some early packing & hang out with everyone one last time
Sunday:
Sunday was everyone's official last day at the convention so no much was done here. We all traveled to the airport and went our separate ways back home.

Needless to say, this year's TwitchCon 2019 was astronomically better than TwitchCon 2018. They listened to the feedback of the LineCon 2018 and fixed it, the expo floor had a great line up and offered streamers of all walks something that they could use to improve their stream or opportunities.

There is one thing I would like to see is more comprehensive panels. There were some good 'sounding' panels but the rest were up in the air. But I also understand that streaming is not a one size fits all but if they were to look at the panels they had from 2017 and 2018 and put those in the current location, I believe the turn out would be so much better.

There is also another thing I would like to comment on and that is making the Artist Alley bigger and allowing more talent to be present at TwitchCon. The Art and the crafts channel within Twitch have a huge amount of talent that goes unnoticed and being able to show their arts and/or crafts would be a big promotion on their side and it shows that Twitch is helping those that get lost from having low numbers.

The real question - will I attend TwitchCon 2020? I'm not sure yet, I want to make sure that I get something out of going to TwichCon instead of it being an expensive meet up with friends. Although I have said to some that I may not attend but I will keep my options open.
