Normally I am not one to have new years resolutions but I do believe in smaller goals that build up to larger goals. I have thought a lot about this over the many, many years that I attended the local anime convention in my town and well this year I decided not to wait or let anything else hold me back anymore.
Granted, I say this as if something was really holding me back and there wasn't really anything ACTUALLY holding me back. I've received nothing but support from friends and loved ones (sort of) and with a little motivation from a select few cosplayers, I decided to cosplay as well.
I've cosplayed before at my local anime convention but I mean to increase the level of quality of cosplay (i.e better props, quality materials, professional photos, etc.) This past year and I did not attend my local convention but instead made it a goal to attend conventions outside of my state and with a little planning and hoping I will attend these two conventions below:
Blerdcon is an event that highlights and celebrates Blerd culture and creates a marketplace of ideas where sharing that culture can take place with proper context, attribution and positivity in an inclusive environment
Blerdcon is derived from the term “Blerd” which is short for black nerd. Blerd culture encompasses creatives, fans, producers who are and have been contributing to every fandom but don’t get the recognition or notoriety.
Blerdcon celebrates our connection with LGBTQ, the disabled, POCs and the international community!
I didn't hear about this convention until last year or so and to be honest I am not entirely sure what really caught my interest but I am definitely interested in going! This year TwitchCon is in San Diego! Another place I have never visited before, it's still too early panel information is not yet available but the airbnb has been secured and I'm hoping this time I will attend those panels and not have to wait nearly the entire day to get my badge.
