After four-plus years of waiting, it has finally arrived. Yes, I know I am kinda late with this review.

Many years ago the beau and I decided to pledge some funds to an IndieGoGo ( which is similar to Kickstarter but for indie game developers) to a very aesthetically pleasing, new and seemingly action-filled game.

At first glance, I was drawn in by the style of the game, the diversity in/of characters, the diverse models of the characters and the fact that the game had a female POC (person of color) main character.

Immediately, we were both interested in the name. We are both very much aware that the game industry is lacking in diversity in games and in companies.

Indivisible was developed by an indie game developer, LabZero who is well known for their game, SkullGirls a 2D fighter with a cartoon-like art style in its characters and the individual fighting styles of the characters. The crew put their minds together to create a super diverse and again using their amazing artistic ability to create Indivisible, everything (or so they say is hand-drawn)!

Not only are the characters diverse, so are the voice actors for each of the characters. Ranging from  Matthew Mercer, Sam Riegel, Ray Chase, Erica Lindbeck, Cristina Valenzuela, Xanthe Hyunh, Debra Wilson, to Anjali Bhimani and more. Where some of the voice actors listed are well more known than others there are some that (I've personally never heard of until recent) but the spotlight is now focused on them for their role in the game.

Indivisible is an action RPG / platformer featuring stunning hand-drawn art and animation combined with unique real-time combat mechanics. The story begins with the main character Ajna, who we quickly learn that she is rebellious and fearless with interactions with her father and the catalyst that awakens a deep power within her and also is the starting point of her journey. On her journey, the characters, environments have been inspired by various cultures and mythologies. Ajna’s quest she’ll encounter many “Incarnations”: people whom she can absorb and manifest to fight alongside her. There are many Incarnations to recruit, each with their own story and personality...

Now I did mention that the beau and I purchased the game through the Kickstarter which was our first time doing something as such and well the execution of it was not the greatest.

Our assumption was that since we backed the game via the Kickstarted that we would get the game earlier than anyone else, WRONG. There were folks already playing the game who had reserved it the day before, we received the soundtrack ( which was that package that we choice via Kickstarter) first before the game, there weren't clear instructions on how to download/receive the game.

In short, it was a mess.

We, of course, received the game, had our names included in the credits for backing the game through Kickstarter and the soundtrack.

Now on to the review of this long-awaited game. But before we begin, I want to state that everything that is being here in this review is my own opinion. I also believe in using a simple and straight-forward guide when it comes to Here's my simple and straight-forward rating guide:

Rating Guide:
☆: Could be better
☆: Ok
☆: Decent
: Great!

Story:
The story is pretty straight forward and a bit cliche. The MC experience a tragedy, vows to get revenge, meets people on the way to get revenge, helps these people with their issue on the way to get revenge, MC gets revenge, accidentally unleashes an evil/good? an entity, the rest of the game is MC and crew trying to stop this entity, resolve any issues the playable characters have, and learn the truth about this dangerous entity.

Perhaps, I've watched too much anime or ??

As I play Indivisible I don't find myself captured or invested in the story or even some of the characters. Also, Anja (the main character) infuriates me, she's bullheaded, arrogant, single-focused BUT there are male characters that are the same some I'm confused about how to feel at this point about her BUT I am ecstatic at the fact that the main character is a POC & female.

Gameplay:
Indivisible brings a seemingly new active turn-based system to the forefront. Depending on which system you have the game for there are four to five buttons you need to focus on while in battle, and four of those buttons correspond with the characters you have in your party while the last button is used for blocking.

Within a battle, each character has three attacks that they can perform based on the speed of their turns ( It is turn-based but essentially whoever is the fastest goes first but not at the same time.) As you continue through the game you quickly learn the best way to defeat/deal a lot of damage to the enemy quickly is by combining your attacks with the various attacks of your teammates.

I also mentioned earlier that this is a 2D side scroller game, you can go back and forth with no issues and obviously ascend and descend the stages

Art/Graphics:
This was the main aspect that drew me to the game (along with the MC being a female + POC) the art of Indivisible is well drawn and animated into the game that everything that happens in the game is seamless. The colors within the game are vibrant, the designs of the plethora of characters and enemy design are diverse and crisp instead of the general recoloring/shading of enemies or even using the same body template.

All of the playable characters are diverse in terms of designs and no one is the same, granted some of the design looks simple, but the designers put the time in these designs and having them true to the character's personality, culture, and background.

All in All, everything about the art and design of this game is aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Despite the debacle of the Kickstarter release, I highly recommend checking out Indivisible, it is on PC, PS4, Switch, Steam. I also recommend checking out the indie game developer too, Lab Zero!

Do you plan on getting Indivisible? I would love to hear your thoughts on the game!
